So you want to be a writer?

If you do not explode in
in spite of everything,
not.
unless you come straight from
heart and mind and mouth
and guts,
not.
if you just stand sitting for hours
staring at the screen of the computer
or bent over a typewriter
searching for words,
not.
if you do it just for money or fame,
not.
if you do it because you want
women in bed,
not.
if you sit there writing and rewriting,
not.
if it is already hard at the thought of it,
not.
if you're trying to write like someone else,
forget it.
if you wait until you come out as a roar,
then wait patiently.
if you do not ever released as a roar,
do something else.
if you read it first to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or someone,
you're not ready.
not be like so many writers,
not like all those thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
not be dull or boring and pretentious,
do not get consumed by self-complacency.
the libraries of the world have yawned

to sleep
for guys like you.
not join them.
not.
unless you bait
soul like a rocket,
unless the stand still
not take you to madness or
suicide or murder,
do not.
unless the sun inside you is burning his bowels
,
not.
when it is really time
and if you are predestined,
